Enzo Mari
Artist and designer born in Novara in 1932.
In the fifties, Enzo Mari devotes himself to an intense artistic activity, as an outstanding interpreter of programmated and kinetic art. In 1963 he coordinates the Italian group Nuova Tendenza and in 1965 he is the organizer of Zagreb’s Biennal Exposition, he also participates to a few Triennial Exposition in Milan and Biennal Expositions in Venice. Along with and as consequence of his activity as an artist, he gets into graphics, and design of products, decors and exhibition. Nicknamed The Conscience of Design he defies definitions.
The name behind objects that made the history of design, and not only in Italy, he is a three-time winner of the Compasso d’Oro, he among the main contributors to a public debate on the profession of designer with book ranging over different genres (the function of aesthetic research, 1974), outrageous works (Allegoria), and personal involvements. His works are displayed in major museums. In 1983 the CSAC of the University of Parma honours him with a grandiose personal exhibition.
